Posted August 26th, 2020 dining, Labor Day Weekend, restaurants, travel

Need to take a break from city life? You can still enjoy a Labor Day Weekend away this year in a safe and fun way! Surrounding our home at the Luminary at One Light, the greater Delmarva area is brimming with potential possibilities for an active or relaxed Labor Day Weekend.

If you are an outdoor activities junkie, check out these lesser-visited destinations that won’t be as crowded as more common destinations, like OCMD:

Deep Creek Lake
Grab your swimsuit and your fishing pole and head out to Deep Creek Lake (it’s not just for ski trips), which is home to the largest freshwater lake in Maryland. The beautiful blue, crisp lake water is the perfect spot for fishing, boating, jet skiing, and tubing. You can even go kayaking or water rafting in the world’s only man-made mountain top river. Hair salons and massage services located nearby Deep Creek Lake offer the chance to relax and take some down time.

Shenandoah National Park
The Shenandoah National Park has over 500 miles of trails of Virginia’s finest nature. Journey along these trails and witness wildflowers, all kinds of animals, stunning waterfalls, and breathtaking views right on the outskirts of Washington, D.C.

Rock Hall
You will fall in love with Rock Hall, Maryland, especially after sailing through the clear fresh water with Shardana Sailing Charters or fishing for local blue crabs with Chesapeake Charters. Looking for a weekend getaway? Try staying at Sunset Lodge and view the waterfront or stay in a private cottage at the Inn at Huntington Creek.

Harpers Ferry
Hike through three different states in one day at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. The 22 miles of hiking trails will take you through West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. Only 82 miles from Baltimore, Harpers Ferry welcomes hikers, bikers, and dogs!

Lancaster
Lancaster, Pennsylvania is full of history and art. Home to a large Amish population, you can take a ride in an authentic buggy at Abe’s Buggy rides, pet alpacas and goats, and taste delicious homemade breads, pastries, or ice-cream at Lancaster Central Market.

St. Michaels
View the nations largest collection of Chesapeake Bay artifacts, indigenous watercrafts, and visual arts at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. St. Michaels, Maryland is laden with museums, restaurants, and local retail stores. Rent a boat and sail the waters of the Chesapeake, take a stroll through Muskrat Park and end your day by dining on locally captured seafood at Awful Arthur’s Seafood Company.

Solomons Island
Southern Maryland is home to the charming town of Solomons. Enjoy live music while sipping on wine at Perigeaux Winery, or take a tour through the Calvert Marine Museum, both less than 2 hours from Luminary at One Light. Brunch at Lotus Kitchen will not disappoint—their hand crafted coffee and pastries will start your day off right this Labor Day weekend.

Happy Labor Day
Wherever you choose to celebrate Labor Day this year, we hope you make it a fun, safe celebration!
