Labor Day Getaways Not Too Far from Baltimore

With Labor Day just around the corner, now is the time to consider a last-minute trip for a much-needed break. As a holiday created to celebrate workers and labor unions, Labor Day reminds working citizens everywhere to appreciate their own hard work and effort. You can take advantage of the extra day off as a reward for your hard work by checking out some cool places within three and a half hours of your home at Luminary! 

Life is Better at the Beach

Ocean City

No matter what you are in the mood for or are hoping to experience, Ocean City has what you need. Only a three-hour drive away, you can experience the relaxing and beautiful beaches of Maryland and soak up some sun before summer ends. Ocean City also hosts tons of events throughout the year, including concerts and movies on the beach. You can also participate in activities ranging from golfing to paddle boarding, ensuring that you will be able to find something you like. Enjoy Labor Day weekend by visiting this charming city! 

Tilghman Island

Rehoboth

Just under three hours away, you can visit Delaware’s biggest and most enjoyed attraction – Rehoboth Beach. Dewey Beach

Dewey Beach has an ocean beach on one side, a broad bay on the other, and urban life in between, all just under three hours away from home! Explore the inland bays via jet-ski, parasail, or paddle-boarding to cool down from the summer heat before resting on the sandy beach. Then, check out some of the awesome food options, like Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls, with quality seafood or Archie’s Ice Cream for a sweet treat. Cape May

A short three-hour drive from Luminary at One Light, Cape May has a ton of exciting and relaxing activities for you to enjoy. Lay out and get some Vitamin D on the beach, or take a dip in the refreshing water. There are tons of stores for you to shop at, including beach fashion stores and gift shops to commemorate your trip. If you want to get outside and active, you can rent a bike and take a ride through the scenic and awe-worthy cape. St. Michaels

Dating back to the 1600s, the town of St. Michaels has tons of history for you to explore. St. Michaels started off as a shipbuilding town and played a significant role in the War of 1812, but became more involved in the fishery industry once the war concluded.

There are a ton of fun and leisurely activities you can participate in at St. Michaels. You can stay near the gorgeous waterfront by fishing, boating, sailing, or kayaking. Harper’s Ferry

Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park takes you back in time with its 19th-century-preserved town. Explore tons of museums and exhibits that let you discover the history of Harper’s Ferry, including the John Brown Museum and or the Civil War Museum. You can also take a hike through the historic battlefields, totaling over 20 miles worth of trails that signify important landmarks in history. Located only an hour west of Luminary, this historical park will give you a bunch of activities, on top of an educational experience you won’t forget.

Assateague Island

Want a combination of every dream destination? Assateague Island, only three and a half hours away from home, offers stunning beaches, maritime forests, and tons of wildlife. You can choose from tons of activities that are fun solo or with the family! Try taking a hike through the barrier island, with 37 miles of land to wander. Or for a more eccentric taste of the island, you can explore the area to discover wildlife including the notorious wild horses! No matter what you choose, Assateague provides you with a unique experience this Labor Day weekend. 

Pocono Mountains

Famous for its resorts, stunning beauty, and lots of fun activities, the Poconos is a perfect destination for you this Labor Day. In a short three-hour drive, you can experience adventure, from ax throwing, to sky diving, to ziplining.
