In August, the sun is out, the days are long, and there is plenty of fun to be had. Luminary residents get to enjoy this beautiful month in the City of Baltimore, and there is no better place to get your summer fun on!

First Thursday Music

On Thursday, August 3, Canton Waterfront Park will play host to a fun, festive, and free summer concert featuring the talents of Deer Tick, Abraham Alexander, and Baltimore’s own Modern Nomad. Over 70 Baltimore-based vendors will be in attendance, as well as over 25 local artisans, makers, and manufacturers! The music starts at 5:30 and will happen rain or shine.

Running For a Good Cause

Saturday, August 5 is the 14th Annual 5k/1-mile walk at the Maryland Zoo. Proceeds from the race will support programs for families with critically ill children, so get up, get moving, and enjoy the outdoors and the animals. Sign up either as an individual or with a team.

Sunset Salsa at the Baltimore Peninsula

Every Thursday, Salsa Now hosts free dancing and music lessons in the newly opened Rye Street Park at the Baltimore Peninsula! Get your groove on and enjoy some Salsa & Bachata Dancing, Latin Music, and food & drinks from Sagamore Spirit and Little Havana.

Mess Fest

Get ready to get messy at the Maryland Science Center at the Inner Harbor! On August 12-13, guests will get to contribute to a collaborative project on the building windows, engineer their way through a giant nose-pickin challenge, and more. All activities are free with paid admission or membership. 

Hippodrome Theater Events

On August 17, the Hippodrome Theater in Downtown Baltimore will host the Best of Baltimore Party, an event that will showcase the very best the city has to offer. From delicious bites and cocktails to live music, this party will have everything to keep the celebration going all night long!

On August 26, we’ll see the Baltimore Met Gala come to the Hippodrome Theater. This high-end event will feature chef curated menus, a premium bar, a high-end fashion show, a DJ, and live performances. Rub elbows with the city’s elite at the year’s most luxurious event!

Rhythm and Reels

Rhythm & Reels is a series of events that offers free family-friendly programming in city parks in the form of culturally diverse movies and concerts. On August 18 at 5pm, come to the Conservatory area in Druid Hill to catch a screening of the classic movie Casablanca. Bring the whole family to enjoy this free event!

Food and Fun at Home

You don’t even have to leave your home at Luminary to enjoy some delicious summer fun!

On Friday, August 4, also known as National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, Luminary will have chocolate chip cookies available in the office for all residents! So come swing by during office hours and get yourself a tasty treat. 

Join us August 9 from 4:30-7:30 as the Luminary community will be visited by a BricknFire Pizza Company Food Truck. BricknFire is a local food truck operation dedicated to serving you the best brick oven pizza you’ve ever had. 

On August 16, Luminary will be visited by Fun-O-Kake, a food truck that offers gourmet options on-the-go. They offer a bunch of delicious meals, such as fried chicken, burgers, and much more.

Finally, on August 31, Luminary will celebrate National Trail Mix Day by offering residents trail mix in the office!
